How to get started
Step 1: Learn more about The Good Shepherd Preschool
We hope our website has served as a good introduction into who we are, but there’s more for you see and consider.
- We encourage you to attend an open house or schedule a visit at our preschool. Once there, you’ll have an opportunity to tour our facilities and meet with a staff member to discuss your initial questions.

Step 2: Apply Online
Our online application is comprehensive, so we recommend you fill out the New Family Application as completely as possible. Most delays in processing come from incomplete applications.
To begin the online application process, Create an Account. Then log in to your account and Create A New Student Application for your child. You will then have the flexibility to log in and out of your account and access your open application.
After submitting the application, you will be notified via email when your application status changes.
Payment of a non-refundable $70 application fee is required with the submission of your student’s enrollment application. The fee can be paid online via credit card, debit card or bank transfer.
The Good Shepherd Preschool accepts applications throughout the year, however those desiring to start school at the beginning of an academic year, should submit applications no later than July 15th.
Step 3: Preliminary Review
We will review your enrollment application and evaluate potential openings. Based on this preliminary evaluation, appointments for interviews are made.
Step 4: Interview
We will contact you to set up a time for an interview. In a parent interview, a preschool administrator will discuss our philosophy and school programming with you. At the interview, you will need to provide the following documents in order for us to complete our review and consideration of your enrollment application:
- Copy of child’s birth certificate
- Copies of transcripts from the applicant’s current (or most recent) school (if applicable)
- IEP or other special testing results (if applicable)
Step 5: Final Decision
The Good Shepherd Preschool staff will make decisions concerning enrollment as a team. Therefore, the final decision may take up to a week after the interview appointment to allow for team discussion. You can expect a call from someone on the administrative team concerning the final decision.
In making a decision, the administrative team will consider whether The Good Shepherd Preschool will be able to meet a student’s academic, social and physical needs, and whether the student’s parents are supportive of the school’s Christ-centered philosophy so that a partnership with the school can develop.
Step 6: Acceptance Letter
Within two weeks of an offer of enrollment, an acceptance letter will be mailed to your home. Additional information concerning school policies, school supplies and the upcoming school year will be provided.
You will also be asked to provide the following documentation prior to the first day of school:
- Virginia Department of Health School Health Entrance Form MCH-213F
- Immunization Records
Step 7: Attend Orientation
All parents are required to attend our Orientation Day held each August before the first day of class. Those parents who enroll their children after the school year is already underway will need to schedule an orientation meeting with the preschool administrative staff.
